Netball Championship will host their annual tournament and this time around in the Waterberg Region precisely in Bela-Bela.

This tournament is normally held in August every year but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it had to be delayed and will kick off from Monday 7 December till Saturday 12 December 2020.

Netball South Africa (NSA) was finally given permission by government to host this event, and it was chosen to be hosted at Zwaartkloof Resort few kilometres west of Bela-Bela town.

This is an opportunity for local players to showcase their talent as the national coach of the Proteas, Dorrettte Badenhorst said she will be keeping and open eye and talent scouting.

Tournament director Mami Diale said that the championship would be smaller than usual mainly because of the social distancing COVID regulations.

“Only 40 teams will take part, it will be 20 under-21 teams and 20 seniors teams. Eight teams will play in semi finals A-Section each and end in a round robin system,’ said Diale.

She added that the tournament will go to semi-finals and finals after first round.

‘All participants would have to undergo COVID-19 test 24 hours before the tournament starts and then self-isolate in case of positive result to prevent the spread of the disease,’ said Diale.

The tournament will take over all reservation of the resort for the duration of the games until the tournament ends.

Diale added that the teams will start playing at 06:00am since Bela Bela is too hot and there will also be three hour breaks from noon till 15:00pm
