The victim of assault with GBH in Bela Bela Pinkie Makhathini, surprised many people, some who even supported her during her ordeal when she withdrew all charges against the Bela Bela Constable Molefe Kubyane who was caught on a video that went viral on social media, assaulting her.
The case was before court several times and on Thursday 28 January Makhathini withdrew the case during Kubyane ‘s appearance, leaving many wondering why, especially social media fanatics who have been following the case.
Kubyane , spent the festive in prison, including the new year after he was arrested on Monday 14 December where he was captured live on a video assaulting the mother of his child Makhathini.
Makhathini, the following day went to open a case and went on social media after she uploaded a video which showed her bruised eyes.
Many people on social media said they knew she was going to withdraw the case, with some even saying she did all this because the constable is the father of his child.
However back then, after she opened the case, she (Makhathini), went on social media and told her supporters that “kea leboga for goba lenna through this whole situation… ke leboga thata and I promise not to disappoint you, ke butse case I won’t withdraw …’
Bela Bela police communication officer Frans Maponya said Kubyane was served with a suspension during the arrest and court appearance, however he later returned to work after internal disciplinary process was held.
Attempt to get hold of Makhathini for comment failed, by the time of publication.
